Bletchley Rugby Club, a cornerstone of local sports culture, was founded in the year 1947, a significant period post-World War II when communities were eager to rebuild and reinvigorate social life. The initiative for establishing the club was spearheaded by Mr. J Smithie, the Town Surveyor, who recognized the need for more diverse sporting activities within the town. His passion for outdoor sports such as cricket and football was well-known, but Mr. Smithie envisioned a more inclusive approach that would allow for the development of indoor sporting activities as well. Thus, he set forth plans for a new sports pavilion that would not only accommodate traditional outdoor sports but also provide facilities for indoor activities like badminton, gymnastics, and more, fostering a comprehensive sporting environment for all ages and interests.

In the same transformative year of 1947, a group of four dedicated rugby union enthusiasts convened with the shared aspiration of forming a rugby club that would be an integral part of the newly established Bletchley Sports Club. This gathering marked the inception of a community-driven initiative that would grow to become a vital part of Bletchley’s sporting heritage. These founding members, fueled by their love for the game, laid the groundwork for what would evolve into a thriving club that would attract players and supporters alike.

As the years progressed into the 1960s, the Club underwent a period of gradual development and transition, which included a change in venue from the Swan Hotel to the Bull. This era was marked by both challenges and opportunities, as the Club faced significant financial difficulties that nearly led to its bankruptcy. However, through the determined efforts of Robin Bowen Williams, a key figure in the Club's history, the situation began to improve. Williams organized a series of innovative fundraising events that not only alleviated the financial strain but also rallied the community around the club, reinstating its importance in local sports. His leadership and commitment were pivotal in ensuring the club's survival and eventual resurgence.

The 1980s heralded a new chapter for Bletchley Rugby Club as it embarked on its first overseas tour, a significant milestone that allowed players and supporters to travel to the United States. This tour was not just about playing matches; it was an opportunity for cultural exchange and camaraderie, strengthening the bonds among club members and expanding their horizons beyond the local community. The experiences gained during this trip contributed to the club's identity and fostered a sense of pride among its members.

In 2008, the club took another progressive step by launching its first Ladies Section, which has since flourished and achieved remarkable success, winning several National Challenge League Titles. This initiative not only provided women with the opportunity to participate in rugby but also highlighted the club's commitment to inclusivity and growth. Additionally, the Rugby Club proudly boasts an Under 18s Section, ensuring that the spirit of rugby is passed down to the younger generation, promoting teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship from an early age.

As we look to the future, we are immensely proud to announce that we are the official sponsors of the Bletchley Rugby Tour Hoodies for 2020. This sponsorship reflects our commitment to supporting local sports and fostering community spirit. We wish the players and supporters the very best of luck on their upcoming tour, as they carry the legacy of Bletchley Rugby Club forward and continue to build on the rich history that has been established over the decades!
