HAVERSHAM MILL
Working on a stone-built building requires a careful balance of traditional craftsmanship and modern construction techniques. Whether restoring an old structure or constructing a new one, Astrum consider the durability, weight, and aesthetic appeal of stone. Unlike brick or timber, stone structures require precise cutting and fitting, as well as specialised mortar to ensure stability and longevity.
Preserving the integrity of a stone-built building also involves understanding its historical significance and original construction methods. Many older stone buildings have unique architectural features, such as intricate carvings, arched doorways, or dry-stone walls, which must be meticulously maintained.
Despite a few challenges, this beautiful stone home offers unmatched durability and a timeless aesthetic, making the effort of working with them worthwhile.

WHAT DID WE DO?
This 5 bedroom home got the full works – and the results are stunning. The entire place was reconfigured to make better use of the space, including a fresh layout for both the house and the garages. On top of that, a beautiful oak-framed orangery was added, bringing loads of natural light and a touch of charm to the home.
We also added a full stone extension – matching the current brickwork, giving the property even more character and space to enjoy. Inside, everything was updated from top to bottom, a brand new kitchen, five completely refurbished bathrooms, and a full re-roof to top it all off.
New windows were fitted throughout, making the place more efficient and giving it a fresh new look. Outside, we gave the exterior walls a facelift and replaced the entire driveway for a clean, modern finish.
It’s a full transformation that turned an outdated space into a stylish, comfortable home ready for modern living, perfectly suited to its peaceful countryside setting.
